This painting features the beautiful panorama of Aspen and its four ski mountains from the top of Red
Mountain Road. From this vantage point, you can see Aspen (Ajax), Aspen Highlands,Tiehack/Buttermilk,
and Snowmass off in the distance. On the far right is Mt. Sopris, blanketed in snow.
On our first ski trip to Colorado, my wife and I decided to take photographs of the mountain and drove
up Red Mountain Road to this location. It was Christmas Eve morning and the mountain air was a crisp
10 degrees F.˚ and being in the right place at the right time, we caught Aspen and her neighboring
peaks catching the morning sun while the valleys down below were cast in shadows.
This was such a spectacular scene that I just had to paint it and right after we returned home, I started
to work on the painting. However, due to previous committments in the golf industry, the painting was
put on hold while I would work on my golf landscapes.
This went on for 20 years; up on the wall when I was painting golf and back on the easel when I had
extra time to work on it. Finally, I decided to put the golf art on hold and push myself to finish the
painting once and for all!
Now that it's complete, I've reproduced it into a canvas giclee print which is available in a limited edition
of 950 prints and 50 artist proofs. See details below:
