This print features the 7th hole at Caves Valley Golf Club, a Tom Fazio design that is located in the beautiful rolling hills and
lush valleys northwest of Baltimore, Maryland. Officially opened in 1991, Caves Valley is wonderful golf club whose mission
statement is one of preserving the integrity of the game along with ensuring that the natural setting surrounding the club
will always be protected.
You will not see large housing developments around Caves Valley...ever. That is because the founding charter members
and presidents of the club purchased the land surrounding the golf course under the condition that they remain in their
natural state in perpetuity. This would always ensure that a round of golf at Caves Valley would be as pleasurable as
The 7th Hole at Caves Valley is a very challenging par 5 of 564 yards with a green that is surrounded by bunkers and
elevated above the fairway. The tee shot must carry a large swale and the 2nd shot must be aimed to the large trees next
to the barn; which happens to be a modern heated training facility during the winter. Reaching the green in 3 shots does
not guarantee a birdie or even a par because of the difficult putting surface that Tom Fazio designed on this hole.
I did this painting in a surrealistic dreamy style; with dark contrast in the shadows and trees. This was to set off the barn
and elevated green along with the fairway and greenside bunkers.
The original painting is in the private collection of the club.
